On January 9th, 2025, I invite you to join me at Toronto’s historic Eglinton Grand for an evening that holds profound personal meaning: the Canadian premiere of The Relentless One. This documentary captures my journey—a story of resilience, transformation, and a relentless pursuit of healing and excellence. It is more than just a film; it’s a movement calling us all to break free from fear, whether in leadership, in facing personal challenges, or in overcoming cycles of pain and doubt.
This premiere is the heart of the Kathleen Black Summit, an annual gathering where North America’s top leaders unite under the motto, “Where the Best Get Better Together.” As someone who has dedicated my life to coaching high-performance leaders, this event represents a chance to not only share my story but to inspire you to embrace your own.
A Story of Heartbreak, Hope, and Transformation
The Relentless One tells a deeply personal story of enduring domestic violence, surviving homelessness, and ultimately rising from these experiences to build a life of purpose and impact. It’s a story I never imagined sharing on this scale, but one I feel compelled to tell because I know it has the power to inspire others.
NBC Palm Springs’ Manny the Movie Guy described my journey as “so unbelievable” and reflected, “Real estate saved your life, but you were homeless—it’s kind of intriguing, cool, it’s awesome.” His words are a testament to the duality of my story: heartbreak intertwined with hope, pain transformed into power.
As CBS Palm Springs’ Patrick Evans shared, “It’s important to showcase films like this...I think you will be inspired by The Relentless One. Maybe you’ll come out a little more relentless after this screening.”
Breaking Free to Lead
This film is more than my personal story—it’s a call to all of us to confront the fears that hold us back. Whether it’s fear of failure, fear of change, or fear of breaking generational cycles, I believe we are all capable of stepping into leadership roles in our own lives.
Kevin Price, host of the Price of Business Podcast, captured this sentiment beautifully: “There’s a lot of inspirational stories out there, but this one is aspirational—packed with takeaway and meaning.”
Working with director M. Douglas Silverstein, whose past projects include stories of over 1,000 of the world’s most iconic artists, has been a transformative experience. He described me as having “the work-hard ethos of Madonna, the baller attitude of Beyoncé, and the reflective nature of Taylor Swift’s songwriting.” His words remind me that our stories, no matter how challenging, hold the power to connect and inspire.
A Movement of Healing and Empowerment
The premiere is not just about watching a film; it’s about creating change. Proceeds from the event will directly support shelters across Canada, helping survivors of domestic violence find safety and hope. This aligns with my mission to lead with courage, compassion, and clarity—and to encourage others to do the same.
The message of The Relentless One ties into the broader FreeFromFear movement, an initiative I’m passionate about. It calls on all of us to break free from whatever holds us back and to rise to our highest potential as leaders, in both our personal and professional lives.
Join the Movement
On January 9th, I hope you’ll join me for this powerful evening at The Eglinton Grand. Together, we’ll celebrate resilience, contribute to meaningful change, and commit to living lives free from fear.
